Cats and Boxes is possibly the most difficult puzzle ever created. And by difficult, I mean the kind of game that makes me question how I can sit at a table and solve a puzzle.

Okay, let's back up. The game sat in its box (ha!) for a day or two before I opened it. Since it LOOKED like a preschool game, I figured I could flip through the challenge booklet and get the gist. No, no, no. As I tried to solve the first puzzle, I realized there were missing pieces and that SmartGames must have made a mistake.

I was so, so wrong. Every piece was accounted for and I followed the challenge setup as noted in the booklet that includes 60 puzzle setups with solutions in the back. As a rule, I have only TWICE looked at a solution to complete a puzzle. I did it during a livestream when I needed to solve a Kanoodle puzzle so I could go to bed (it had been a 3-hour livestream and I was losing my mind).

Anyway, back to the cats. As I tried and tried to solve the first puzzle, I realized this logic puzzle was different. It was a lie. The cute package decorated with smiling, illustrated cats was a lie. The cats knew something they didn't want to tell me: that Cats and Boxes would be the most difficult puzzle I'd ever and will ever put together.

Why? Well, I can't really tell you. All I can say is that Raf Peeters at SmartGames must be from another planet, posing as a human. His ability to create insanely creative, unique, and re-playable puzzle games is why I love his games so much.

In my Brain Game Theater livestream on TIKTOK and YOUTUBE, I set up puzzles and ask the live audience to make the commands as if my hands were theirs. So I'm basically "the claw" that is sorta trying to solve the puzzle, but really I'm leaving it up to the viewers.

In an episode of Brain Game Theater, players INSISTED that I had placed the pieces wrong and that I was purposely rage baiting the viewers to extend the stream length. No, no, no. I checked twice and I had indeed followed the rules: put the cats on the board, lay the boxes and carpet tiles down, and solve.

We spent over ONE HOUR on a puzzle. ONE HOUR. Since the game has 60 challenges, it could take me 2 months to solve Cats and Boxes if I completed one puzzle a day.
